Hello! I’m Elsa Wickes

I’m a London-born writer living in the Netherlands. My work sits at the intersection of culture, politics, and lived experience, with a focus on how private moments reflect wider social patterns. I’m particularly interested in body politics, care, power, and the quiet rules we inherit around identity, appetite, ambition, and worth.

I’m a section writer and editor for Beauty Papers, where my work includes research and editorial development for interviews with cultural figures such as make-up artist Inge Grognard, whose film features in the James Ensor exhibition at Antwerp’s Fashion Museum (MoMu). I have also contributed to Wholetalk, a print magazine focused on health and wellbeing.

Alongside editorial work, I have collaborated on communications projects with international organisations including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Global Center on Adaptation. Across both editorial and institutional spaces, I’m drawn to writing that starts with something personal and opens into a wider conversation.

The pieces below are extracts from my work, I also publish personal essays and cultural commentary on my blog.

🙋🏻‍♀️About me

I have a background in editorial writing, digital communications, and campaign strategy, with experience across cultural publications, NGOs, and international organisations. I work across long-form writing, opinion, interviews, and narrative-led content, often combining personal reflection with cultural analysis.

I’m comfortable working independently or collaboratively and enjoy projects that allow for depth, nuance, and perspective rather than quick takes alone.
